It's situated northwest of the city Eindhoven, and Best is also part of the agglomeration of this city. The village was part of a neighbourhood town, called Oirschot but, as Best was situated on the state road from Amsterdam to Maastricht, this often gave extra difficulties. Each time a troop of soldiers wanted to stay for a while in Best, they had to request this 10 km away, in Oirschot to be allowed. This made The Hague decide to separate Best in 1819. Back in the Roman time, people had lived in Best, based on archaeological excavations around the village. The first written text about Best dates back to about 775 AC, which reads: uijt eene edele stamme onder de Franken werd Sint Odulphus, patroonheilige van Best, geboren. This means: from a noble tribe under the Francs Saint Odulphus, patroness of Best, was born. The tale goes his birth place is at the same place on which now the Saint Odulphus church is built. Two centuries ago, Best itself didn't yet exist. There were three small villages: Naastenbest, in the west, Wilhelminadorp, in the south and Verrenbest, at where now the Oranjestraat is. They grew together, and formed the village with the name Best. In 1866, Best got a train station on the line Rotterdam - Breda - Boxtel - Helmond - Venlo ..."

A shaped, twin-tip alpine ski. A ski is a long flat device worn on the feet designed to help the wearer slide smoothly over snow. Originally intended as an aid to travel in snowy regions, they are now primarily used for recreational and sporting purposes. Also, a ski may denote a similar device used for other purposes than skiing, e.g., for steering snowmobiles. Snow skis glide on snow because downward pressure, as well as heat from surface friction, melts the snow directly under the ski. This creates a very thin layer of water directly under the ski upon which the ski glides. Ski wax is used to decrease drag by increasing the water repellent properties of the base. - 1 History

| The original Nordic ski technology was improved during the early twentieth century so that skiers could make turns at higher speeds. New ski and binding designs, coupled with the introduction of ski lifts to carry skiers high up on mountains, enabled the development of today’s most prominent category of the sport, alpine skiing. Skis were originally wooden planks made from a single piece of wood. They are now usually made from a complex assembly of components including glass fiber, Kevlar, Titanium, other polymers or composite materials, though many may still contain wooden cores. Resorts are places, towns such as Newport, Rhode Island or St. Moritz, Switzerland, or larger regions, like the Adirondack Mountains or the Jersey Shore. A resort is not merely a commercial establishment operated by a single company, although in the late twentieth century this sort of faciltiy became more common. Such a self-contained resort attempts to provide for all or most of a vacationer's wants while remaining on the premises, such as food, drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping. The term "resort" sometimes is misused to identify a hotel that does not provide the other amenities required of a full resort. However, a hotel is frequently a central feature of a resort, such as the Grand Hotel at Mackinac Island, Michigan. Towns that contain resorts—or where tourism or vacationing is a major part of the local activity—are often called resort towns. The Walt Disney World Resort is a prominent example of a modern, self-contained commercial resort. Resorts exist throughout the world, increasingly attracting visitors from around the globe. Thailand, for instance, has become a popular destination. Resorts are especially prevalent in Central America and the Caribbean. Closely related to resorts are convention and large meeting sites. Generally these occur in cities where special meeting halls, together with ample accommodations as well as varied dining and entertainment are provided. - 1 Types of resorts
